Oh, you, my heart's vastness

Edith Södergran: The Shadow of the Future

Let me outstretch my arm, oh Life.

Oh you my heart’s vastness. I wait

to hear my voice.

I will speak, my words shall fall like burning bonfires among the mosses.

There is no hand that touches the outside of my heart till it trembles,

and yet I think that I gather the belt of thunder around my chest.

But the thunder is in my breast, it falls like a shot.

I am a god in whom a storm rages,

with sucking eyes I draw everybody into my soul.
