My fairytale castles

Edith Södergran: The Rose Altar

I visited the philosopher’s house

and understood that he was happy…

But my fairytale castles

stand

on fragile inexplicable pillars.

Oh, fairytale castles,

crash, crash

into golden gravel

I love you way too dearly – die!

I’ll rebuild you

trembling

to kill you – way too beautiful.

Fairytale castles,

once you will stand on the Earth…

Then I will gravely remove the hammer and the chisel…

The world comes to an end for me…
