Edith Södergran: The Rose Altar
Flee into loneliness! Be men!
Do not become dwarfs with crippled limbs.
Do not become prisoners with gritted teeth.
Do not become sick eagles in bonds and chains.
Teach yourselves to stand like firs on the cliffs in the fire of the surf.
Teach yourselves to follow the unwritten laws of the stars.
Saints and heroes, flexible bodies, wax for columns in the temple of truth.
Teach yourselves to rise like waves in the storm.
Reach out the hand for brothers, the world will be another.
The mourning-days of autumn are definitely over.
